Medellin, September 6, 2024 – From the IX Colombian Business Congress of ANDI, in Medellin, the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development, Susana Muhamad, highlighted “the great effort of the private sector and the productive sectors of the economy in their mobilization towards COP16. This has been reflected in more than 100 information sessions we have held with them and the immense interest in participating in COP16, where only their intention to register brings us to the same number of delegates that registered for COP15 from all over the world”.
In this sense, Muhamad affirmed that a titanic work is being done to guarantee the greatest representation of the productive sector in the world summit. “This representation is from all levels, from social and community enterprises to large international companies. It is a representation where in the private sector exhibition fair, 42% will be from companies of the Colombian economy, that is, small and medium-sized companies that are making great efforts to innovate towards biodiversity”.
On the road to COP16, the Economies for Life Fair will be held from October 2 to 4, which seeks to articulate public and private sector initiatives towards the country's climate and ecological transition.
Likewise The Minister also assured that a very important work route is being developed with the economic sectors at COP16, which will be materialized through Colombia's climate and ecological transition portfolio, to be presented at the Economies for Life Fair, from October 2 to 4.
This fair will address financing, from public and private banks, to find common points in the country's environmental and climate transition, which will allow the structuring of an innovation, science and technology agenda, together with a regulatory and incentive agenda.
Likewise, Muhamad, the next president of the COP16 biodiversity conference, sent a message to all entrepreneurs to see in this important event a great opportunity to partner and find joint visions with other companies worldwide.
“We hope that after COP16 we will really have a great joint agenda, public sector, private sector, communities, banks, for an environmental, energy and climate transition of the country,” said Muhamad.
Historic private sector participation in COP16
The participation of the private sector in COP16 has been historic, 740 proposals were submitted by companies and associations to support spaces as partners and exhibitors in the Green Zone, resulting in the selection of 38 partners and 240 exhibitors.
OP16, the most important biodiversity summit in the world, will be held in Cali from October 21 to November 1.
In terms of the academic agenda, the sector presented more than 355 events and was ranked as the second sector in proposing the most events for the program of action and participation of the Green Zone and Colombia Pavilion in the Blue Zone. Of this number, 35 national and international events were selected, divided into one international symposium, three forums, one workshop session and four events for the Colombia Pavilion.
